Polish Kitchen News

Thank you to everyone who worked at any time from September 2012 till the end of this year’s carnival. Whether it was an hour here and there or 2 to 3 days a week, your time volunteering was invaluable. Without your help, the Polish kitchen would not have been a success!  Our planning for the “30th  Anniversary Carnival” is already underway. From September to December, the Polish kitchen would normally become very active processing the 1,200 to 1,500 heads of cabbage needed to supply not only the carnival but also for the Men’s Guild and Ladies Guild events with about 500 gallons of kapusta, 5,000 golumki and 3,000 dozen pierogi, which is not an easy task and very time consuming and labor intensive. This Fall the Polish kitchen is in MUCH need of help. From going to Hadley to pick-up from 60 to 200 heads of cabbage (usually on Thursdays), to cleaning and cutting the cabbage, to processing the cabbage; and then to packaging the cabbage for the freezer.  We process 60 heads of cabbage every Monday morning and sometimes on Friday morning and/or early evening and Saturday morning depending on everyone’s availability to help.  If you have a truck (sometimes we need two), would you consider volunteering to pick-up the cabbage. If you like to get up early in the morning, how about helping us from 6 A.M. to 8 A.M. to clean and cut the cabbage. From 8 A.M. to 11 A.M., could you help us process the cabbage or get the cabbage packaged?  Do you like to sleep in; then, how about helping us from 11 am to 1 pm with the cleaning up? (Our time frame would change for Friday evening). If you are unable to help with cabbage processing, would you consider providing a baked good for the volunteers that help? The help always appreciates a coffee break!  Our need is very concerning because without more help, the quantity of Polish food will be greatly decreased. Our Polish food makes a sizeable financial contribution to our church and school.
